Often waking up struggling for breath due to his asthma, a young Josh Brodie would spend many nights in hospital with his parents - no strangers to the A&E.
Breathing is part of life, but for over 700,000 Kiwis including Josh, sometimes it isn't as simple as inhale and exhale. Being told to sit out of P.E. at school and continuous breaks to stop or take an inhaler are common occurrences for many Kiwi kids.
Josh has a daughter who is too young to be diagnosed with asthma, but it may develop as she gets older. Josh is aware of the signs and how to manage asthma flare-ups when they happen...
and he wants to educate New Zealanders so that they know too.
As he has gotten older, the impact that asthma has had on Josh's life has changed. While he may not be affected as significantly as when he was a child, Josh understands that knowing how to deal with asthma triggers while living an active life isn't always easy.
Josh will be completing 2 Half Ironman Races in November and December before embarking on his main goal of completing a full Ironman in Taupo March 2nd, which consists of 3.9km swim, 180km bike then a marathon 42.2km run. Josh's goal is to not only be competitive but to create awareness, educate and raise an ambitious goal of $50k for the Asthma & Respiratory Foundation NZ.
As key corporate sponsors, DVS recognised their values aligned strongly with Josh's - to create awareness and education around respiratory disease in New Zealand. DVS have supported Josh by installing a DVS system in his house in Wellington.
“Since we’ve had our DVS system installed, we have seen a remarkable difference in condensation. The air feels cleaner and it really does feel like you are breathing better air.”
In the lead-up to the 2 half-Ironman races, and full Ironman race, Josh will be showing his rigorous training schedule including exercises, distance, and goals.
Your donation to support Josh will go directly to the Asthma and Respiratory Foundation New Zealand, whose work helps the 700,000 Kiwis living with respiratory disease.
